Between Oct. 25 and Nov. 3, 11 residents were victimized by a “phony MPay phishing SMS scam” and incurred losses of close to MOP80,000. In a statement, the Judiciary Police (PJ) announced it has received many complaints from the public about phishing SMS scams. All victims claimed they had received a fraudulent SMS stating that their MPay points would soon expire, and in order to redeem points for gifts, they would have to log into a bogus website and input the usernames and passwords of their MPay accounts. The PJ reminds the public to be cautious of any suspicious SMS.
