October hotel occupancy at 83%

The average occupancy rate of guest rooms rose 41.1 percentage points year-on-year to 82.8% in October, amid the National Day Golden Week, data from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) has shown.

The rates for 5-star (85.6%) and 2-star hotels (83.1%) both exceeded 80%, surging 45.4 percentage points and 33.7 percentage points respectively.

The number of guests of hotel establishments in October leapt 151.8% year-on-year to 1,247,000. Guests from mainland China (904,000), Hong Kong (187,000) and Taiwan (28,000) jumped by 131.2%, 787% and 503.1% respectively.

The Golden Week of the National Day holidays, which followed the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, accounted for a higher number of visitors to Macau than initially forecasted. 

The eight-day holiday period saw over 900,000 (931,429) visitors, a 16.4% increase over Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) officials’ expectations, with a daily average of 116,429.

In the first ten months of this year, the average occupancy rate of guest rooms of hotel establishments rose 43 percentage points year-on-year to 80.9%.

Until October, the number of visitors arriving on package tours totaled 914,000, and that of Macau residents purchasing outbound services through travel agencies skyrocketed by 858.1% year-on-year to 327,000. Staff Reporter
