Pearl of the Orient overpass due to be completed November

The overpass that links the Areia Preta district with the New Urban Zone A is expected to be completed next month, the government has announced.

The government also takes pride in the fact that the construction has not run behind schedule and, at the time of going to press, has only run 0.8% over budget.

The construction of the overpass began March last year and was estimated to take about 500 working days. The original price tag was MOP179 million.

Recent Covid-19 outbreaks have caused delays to the construction and a slight delay of 15 working days was originally expected. However, the government has noted that the delays in the schedule have been made up for, and it believes that the project will be completed next month as planned.

Although the government is confident in meeting the deadline, a definite opening date has not yet been announced.

The new overpass will only carry outbound traffic from Areia Preta. In fact, traffic will travel from Areia Preta to Zone A or the Amizade Bridge, depending on which lane drivers choose.

With that said, traffic from Zone A or the Amizade Bridge will not be able to avoid the Pearl of the Orient roundabout before reaching the Areia Preta District. AL
