Police to step up patrols on noise ‘blackspots’

The Public Security Police (PSP) revealed on Monday that it will prepare a list of “blackspots” where people have complained about loud noises.
In a TDM radio program, some residents explained that on some occasions, police officers were unable to reach the apartments which were deemed the source of the noise because they were in old buildings and there was no security guard to open the gate.
A PSP spokesperson told the media that they will list these locations as “blackspots” in the future and will arrange a more frequent patrolling schedule for those areas.
In the first two days the Prevention and Control of Environmental Noise Law came into force, PSP and the Environmental Protection Bureau have received a total of 41 complaints so far. The police said that around half of the complaints can be settled through issuing advice.
Moreover, the PSP commented yesterday on the two cases of prosecution relating to the noise law involving two Filipino individuals who were chatting on the street at around midnight. The authorities said that the reason those two people were prosecuted is because they were seen by the officers to be making inappropriately loud noise. As a result, the officers argue that they could not have settled the case by only issuing advice.
