Possible tropical storm to enter South China Sea

A tropical cyclone that is expected to begin incubating in the South China Sea this week, may affect Macau even as its current trajectory will take it close to Hainan by Thursday evening.

The Hong Kong Observatory pointed out on its website that there is a weakening anticyclone over Southern China region, and showers and thunderstorms will thus be more frequent in the next few days.

Meanwhile, a low-pressure area is expected to develop gradually over the central and northern parts of the South China Sea in the middle of this week. Heavier rains, thunderstorms and strong gusts in the coming days are a possibility.

However, the observatory also warned that the weather developments will be subject to changes.

Forecasts by the Macau Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau predict showers and thunderstorms over the next six days. The week will see cloudy weather with occasional sunshine and strong gusts of wind.

Weather app Windy.com forecasts that a counter-clockwise cyclone will form west of the northern Philippines tomorrow and head west in the South China Sea. Staff Reporter
