Racers and their machines are gearing up for the second and final weekend of the 2024 Macau International Kart Grand Prix (IAME Asia Final) at the Coloane track.
A total of 188 competitors will be racing over the weekend in Coloane in seven different classes that include Cadet, Junior, Senior, Master, and KZ, as well as the Coca-Cola and Sands Cups.
The largest field is the Senior Class, with 50 racers listed at the start, followed by the Cadets, with 44.
Track activities commenced on Wednesday, and yesterday marked the beginning of the intense competition, featuring official free practice sessions for the four main racing classes (excluding the special cups and KZ) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Today, additional official free practice sessions and the first timed trial session, starting from 3:30 p.m., will be held.
Saturday (Dec. 7) will commence with warm-up sessions, followed by qualifying heats before the lunch break. The afternoon will see more qualifying heats.
Sunday, the final day of the event, will feature the most important races of the weekend, including the superheats in the morning and the category in the afternoon.
These races will close a double weekend of karting races in Macau’s karting track, which already saw a series of races from the ROK Cup Macau Invitational Race categories last weekend.
Last Sunday, Australian Jay Rhett Kostecki won the Mini ROK Class, followed by Italian Achille Rea and Indonesian Fadhl Abbas Wibowo Muhammad. In the Junior ROK Class, Jiang Houzhai from China won, followed by Singaporean Danish Irwan Chen Ruiyi and Vernice Lao from Macau.
In the Senior and Expert Rok class, the winner was Tomoki Terashima from Japan.
