Residence for the elderly opens, move-ins begin

The government elderly residence facility officially opened yesterday, providing housing and amenities for over 600 senior citizens who have already chosen to move in this year.

The new residence features a clubhouse and other facilities that will be accessible to residents, allowing them to enjoy a higher quality of life. The move-in process is being carefully coordinated by the Social Welfare Bureau (IAS), which is assisting residents with signing the usage agreements and inspecting their new apartments.

During the first day of operations, over 40 qualified applicants signed their usage agreements and took possession of their new homes. The IAS is providing an 8-day fee exemption to assist residents with the transition.

For the approximately 300 seniors who have chosen to move in next year, the IAS will be in touch to schedule the signing of usage agreements in the coming months. The bureau emphasizes that no links will be included in reminder messages to be issued, cautioning residents to be wary of potential scams.

The facility represents a significant investment in the well-being of Macau’s aging population. By providing comfortable, technology-enabled living spaces, the initiative aims to enhance the everyday lives of the city’s senior citizens. VC
