Small circle | 351 people running for places on CE election committee

An aggregate of 351 people has signed up for the right to contest available places on the Chief Executive Election Committee, the Government Information Bureau announced yesterday. The figure was confirmed after applications for candidature regarding the June polling closed at 6pm.

A total of 120 candidature applications was received from the First Sector, which covers the industrial, commercial and financial sub-sectors. The number of applications received is equal to the number of places on the Chief Executive Election Committee allocated to this sector.

Among the candidature applications from the Second Sector, 26 came from the cultural sub-sector; 31 from the educational sub-sector; 43 from the professional sub-sector; and 17 from the sports sub-sector.

In the Third Sector, the labor and social service sub-sectors generated 63 and 51 candidature applications respectively.

Candidates in the educational sub-sector, the labor sub-sector and the social service sub-sector exceeded the number of places on the Chief Executive Election Committee available for each of the respective sub-sectors.

The Fourth Sector membership is formed by representatives of the Legislative Assembly; representatives of the Municipal Affairs Bureau; and Macau’s delegates respectively to the National People’s Congress and to the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.

Once the applications have been assessed regarding eligibility, the Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau will publish Tuesday next week a list of eligible candidates.
