The Special Presentation segment of IFFAM will screen nine films this year. This year’s line-up includes The Captain by Director Andrew Lau, a cinematic portrayal of one of the most miraculous emergency landings in the contemporary history of Chinese aviation; A Hidden Life by Terrence Malick, the true story an Austrian peasant farmer who, when faced with the threat of execution, keeps his spirit alive by his unwavering faith and his love for his wife; The Domain by Tiago Guedes, the tale of a Portuguese family that begins to delve deep into the secrets of their mysterious homestead; Flowers of Shanghai by Hou Hsiao-Hsien, a drama about elegant brothels, located around Shanghai in 1880s; The Present by HUR Jin-ho, a narrative about two youngsters whose dreams of setting up a company are helped with an expert from the past;Dark Waters by Todd Haynes, a story of corporate malfeasance in the US; The Truth by Hirokazu Kore-Eda, the drama about a reunion between mother and daughter that turns confrontational; Red Amnesia by Wang Xiaoshuai, the tale of a stubborn retired widow who spends her days caring about her two grown up sons and her elderly mother; and A City Called Macau by Shaohong Li, the adventure of Mei Xiaoou who lives in Macau and meets the three most important men in her life.
