Survey respondents read on average 6.6 books in 2015

The University of Macau released the results of a survey conducted during the months of November and December last year, which enquired about the reading habits of local residents in the previous year of 2015. The survey concluded that on average the respondents  read 6.6 books in 2015, according to a report by Jornal Cheng Pou.
The survey data was based on interviews collected from 1,024 users of local public libraries (registered users of libraries under the administration of the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC)), and 1,027 other people. Regarding the former, 53.6 percent claimed to have visited libraries under the administration of IC, while 19 percent voiced their support for the 24-hour opening periods of these library facilities. With respect to the number of book collections, 34 percent were satisfied while 39.3 percent were happy with the range of available books.
The results also show a greates interest in reading in Macau residents compared to the figures registered in Hong Kong. According to a reading index survey conducted over the months of April and May by Sun Hung Kai Properties, Hong Kong people read an average of 2.8 books in the six months prior to the survey.
