Local broadcaster TDM and Portuguese state-owned national broadcaster RTP signed a cooperation agreement yesterday, thus updating a protocol that they had signed back in 1993.
The agreement aims at furthering cooperation focusing mainly on training, co-production, and content sharing. The idea is also to share content from the Portuguese broadcaster with Chinese-based CCTV.
The agreement was signed by the presidents of RTP and TDM’s board of directors, Alberto da Ponte and José Manuel de Oliveira Rodrigues, respectively.
The president of TDM’s Executive Council, Manuel Pires, said that TDM will act as a TV content exchange platform between CCTV and RTP.
He explained that CCTV TV broadcasts will be sent to Macau and be subject to post-production work here. TDM will provide subtitling and send the programs to RTP.
The Portuguese broadcaster’s president, Alberto da Ponte, stressed that both companies are looking forward to enhancing their cooperation with each other when it comes to the professional training of their staff. He said that broadcasting is no longer only about radio and TV, but also about journalism on the web. He thinks TDM and RTP can learn from each other in this particular area.
Manuel Pires said that he’s hoping training opportunities can include RTP’s training center and the possibility of RTP staff to furthering their knowledge of Macau through TDM.
The agreement features co-production opportunities, which will focus mainly on documentaries, said Alberto da Ponte. “I believe it will be mainly about producing documentaries rather than cooperating in terms of entertainment or fiction [content]. I think it makes sense for Portugal to have a more in-depth knowledge of Macau’s reality. Now it’s important that both teams and experts in different areas gather to discuss this further,” he added.
