Air Seoul, a low-cost carrier of Asiana Airlines, yesterday announced that it is set to operate flights to several regions including Macau.
The budget airline has started to sell international flight tickets to Japanese cities and Southeast Asian regions, in a bid to heighten Asiana Airlines’ revenues after its flight lines to cities in Japan and Southeast Asia proved unprofitable.
The six Japanese cities are Shizuoka, Toyama, Nagasaki, Hiroshima, Yonago (Tottori), and Takamatsu; while flights to the three Southeast Asian destinations are Siem Reap (Cambodia) Kota Kinabalu (Malaysia) and Macau.
Asiana Air handed all of the aforementioned flights to Air Seoul except for departures to Nagasaki and Macau.
The Korea Economic Daily reported that Asiana’s operations to Japanese cities were the main loss makers as most passengers have noted that they would rather travel in a more affordable aircraft.
The media outlet stressed that Asiana is expected raise its profitability through the handing of flights to the low-cost carrier, despite the inevitable decline in sales revenue.
Air Seoul is the second airline subsidiary of Asiana, which also operates Air Busan. Air Busan is focused on domestic flights, while Air Seoul is aiming to build a network on short-range international flights.
