Niu Jing, director of the Administrative Committee of Hengqin New Area, disclosed earlier this week that Macau and Zhuhai have reached an agreement to extend the Light Rapid Transit (LRT) to the Hengqin area.
Niu revealed that this decision and the relevant agreements have been confirmed by both authorities. However, the Secretary for Land, Public Works and Transport Bureau (DSSOPT), Raimundo do Rosário, did not respond to Niu’s comments while attending an Urban Renewal Council (CRU) meeting on Sunday, according to a report by Hou Kong Daily.
Last June, Macau and Guangdong signed 12 cooperation framework agreements that were expected to come into effect in a short-term. The topic of Macau’s single-plated cars entering Hengqin was also included in the package of agreements.
Niu also claimed to be confident regarding the issue of Macau single-plated cars finally being allowed to drive on Hengqin’s roads by the end of this year. Niu noted that all sections related to the issues have been progressing at a normal pace and that both cities are preparing for the new arrangements.
