The Judiciary Police has arrested four individuals involved in two separate cases of trying to smuggle used mobile phones across the border.

The arrests occurred last week at the Gongbei Port of Entry and the Macau Port of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge (HZMB).

Police confiscated 240 phones from the individuals, aged between 37 and 60, including two Hong Kong women. Police have formally charged them and they face fines of up to MOP50,000.

According to local law enforcement, authorities at the Macau Port of the HZMB discovered one of the women had concealed 106 used mobile phones on her back, calves and in her carry-on luggage. The other woman had hidden 50 used mobile phones around her waist.

Additionally, at the Gongbei Port of Entry, a female traveler aroused suspicion due to her suspicious behavior.

Subsequent examination revealed she had bound 34 used mobile phones to her waist, thighs, and calves to smuggle them out of Macau. Staff Reporter
