GUAM The lesbian couple who sued to overturn a gay-marriage ban is put to the front of the line as Guam becomes the first U.S. territory to recognize gay marriage. Deasia Johnson of Killeen, Texas and Nikki Dismuke of New Orleans became the first gay couple to be legally married in a U.S. territory.

UKRAINIAN officials say that a major blaze has engulfed a fuel depot near the capital, leaving one man dead and injuring several others. The Emergency Situations Ministry says firefighters are focusing on trying to prevent the fire from spreading to a nearby military unit. Senior officials have rushed to the area to coordinate efforts to combat the blaze.

FRANCE-GERMANY The first remains of victims from the Germanwings crash were set to be flown from France to Germany yesterday, about 11 weeks after the disaster that killed all 150 people onboard. Dozens of victims’ relatives from the March 24 crash in the French Alps have been awaiting the return of the remains. In the first repatriation, 44 coffins were expected to be flown from Marseille to Duesseldorf, Germany.

USA Albert Woodfox, the last of three high-profile Louisiana prisoners known as the “Angola Three,” could walk free within days after a federal judge ordered state officials to release him immediately. He has been in solitary confinement or isolation for 43 years. U.S. District Judge James Brady said Monday that the 68-year-old former Black Panther Party prison leader should be granted immediate freedom and not be tried again in the death of a prison guard stabbed to death during prison upheavals in 1972.

SPAIN The father of an Ivory Coast boy caught being smuggled into Spain in a suitcase last month has been freed on bail, allowing the family to be reunited. A court ordered Ali Ouattara freed Monday hours after his 8-year-old son was allowed leave a youth center where he was cared for after being discovered May 7 by border police in Spain’s North African enclave of Ceuta. The boy had been hidden in a suitcase carried by a Moroccan woman not related to the family.
