Xia Baolong inspects new bridge, meets with key leaders

Beijing’s top official for Hong Kong and Macau Affairs, Xia Baolong, has visited the city’s fourth Taipa-Macau bridge, Macau Bridge, as part of his week-long inspection trip in the SAR.

Head of the Central Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office and the director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, Xia arrived in Macau yesterday afternoon at the Macau International Airport.

Along with Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng, the official was briefed on the the bridge’s overview, design, and role in easing traffic congestion in Macau and facilitating the development of new area in the future, as cited in a statement issued by the Government Information Bureau.

Yesterday, Xia also met with the key leaders of the executive, legislative, and judicial institutions of the SAR.

According to the statement, he conveyed President Xi Jinping’s “greetings to Macau compatriots” and also conveyed the central authorities’ affirmation of the MSAR’s approach to governance. 

Xia returned to the region after a year, following his four-day inspection tour back in May.

“Director Xia’s presence fully demonstrated President Xi’s and the central authorities’ high regard and strong support for the MSAR,” the local government said in a statement.

The official also visited Hong Kong in February this year, meeting people in various sectors including those in the finance, business and legal professions.
