City of Dreams and Altira Macau have recently been offering a variety of Malaysian dishes as a way to promote the rich and diverse variety of Asian flavors for locals and visitors to enjoy. Collaborating with the Malaysian External Trade Development Corporation, they have launched an event called the Malaysian Gourmet Tour.
From now until the end of the month, Golden Pavilion, R Bar, Wave and Asia Kitchen at City of Dreams, as well as Altira Macau’s Monsoon, will feature a selection of ethnic Malaysian cuisine. Infused with the flavors of China, India and Portugal, Malaysian food is not only scarce in Macau and Hong Kong, but has also had a profound influence on the unique gastronomy of Macau – the Macanese cuisine.
The menus not only offer traditional Malaysian dishes from north to south but also the famous Nyonya dishes – meticulously prepared by the company’s Malaysian chefs. Penang’s Assam laksa and king prawn noodles in soup, Nyonya-style spicy marinated vegetable salad, Hainanese chicken rice as well as nasi lemak (fragrant rice cooked in coconut milk and served with prawns and fried chicken wings) are just some of the flavorful specialties that cannot be missed.
I tried some of the dishes the other day and found the laksa noodles with chicken, seafood, and spicy coconut broth available at the Golden Pavilion to be a personal favorite on the menu. The soup is addictive, as it is infused with the rich flavors of the sea, yet its coconut base is creamy and fragrant. Another favorite is the Malaysian satay available at Hard Rock’s Wave poolside weekend barbecue buffet, which comes with a sumptuous sauce made out of crushed peanuts and authentic spices. Besides, what’s better than eating by the pool under the sun during a relaxing weekend? Just remember to bring your sunscreen.
