The Tourism Development Master Plan for the Okavango Basin Hub will complement the Master Plan for Tourism of the National Development Plan (NDP) 2012/2017, said Angola’s Minister for Hotels and Tourism.
Pedro Mutindi said last weekend in Dirico, in the province of Kuando Kubango, the Tourism Development Plan would allow Angola to welcome around 6 million tourists per year by 2020 and create one million direct and indirect jobs.
The minister, who visited the area to find out about execution of the Okavango-Zambezi Cross-Border Conservation Project, noted the central government’s efforts to build airports, roads, install water and power systems and, above all, its willingness to receive private sector investments.
The Okavango Basin Hub is one of the tourist development centres defined at a national level by the Tourism Master Plan and is recognised as being appropriate for nature tourism.
The hub was created by a decree in March 2011, is located in the city of Dirico, in the southern area of Zaire province, and covers an area of 11,972 hectares at the confluence of Cuito and Cubango rivers. MDT/Macauhub
