Lawmaker José Pereira Coutinho has resigned from his post as adviser to the Portuguese Communities to which he was elected in 2015, according to several media reports.
Since 2003, the local lawmaker has held the position of Councilor in the Portuguese Community Council.
A notice published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Portugal stated that the request for resignation took place on February 2 this year.
Coutinho declined to clarify the reason behind his resignation.
Recently, Portuguese newspaper Ponto Final reported that the representatives from the Portuguese Community Council for mainland China, Macau and Hong Kong have sent a letter to Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng to thank the government for the support given to the work of the council’s regional chapter.
However, Coutinho later claimed that he had not signed the letter.
The Council of Portuguese Communities for mainland China, Macau and Hong Kong has José Pereira Coutinho, Rita Santos, Armando de Jesus, Gilberto Camacho (as alternate member) and Lídia Lourenço (also as alternate member). AL
