Corporate Bits | CEM invites media to visit Coloane power station regarding recent smoke appearance

In response to recent media enquiries on the appearance of black smoke at the Coloane A Power Station (CCA), CEM invited the media to visit the Power Station yesterday and provided detailed information on the root cause and relevant solutions to address the issue.
During the visit, to give an overview of the smoke causes, Garrick Yuen, Senior Engineer at CEM’s Generation Department at Coloane A Power Station, introduced the generators installed in CCA and the relevant combustion process during power generation. Garrick explained that during the combustion process, unavoidably there are exhaust emissions, especially when the engine is at start up stage, and brown or black smoke will be emitted for around 15 minutes. The occurrence and duration can be decreased with certain technology and equipment, and CEM has prepared a proposal, ready to be submitted to the Government for approval.
