The Portuguese celebrate their National Day known as Dia de Portugal every June. This year, MGM is presenting a series of Portuguese dining, entertainment and art experiences in association with the installation, Valkyrie Octopus, by renowned Portuguese contemporary artist Joana Vasconcelos at the Grande Praça. Valkyrie Octopus will hang from the skylight dome of MGM’s central atrium until October 31. Soaring over the Grande Praça, this extraordinary piece symbolizes the cultural exchange between Macau and Portugal.
Facing Valkyrie Octopus is the terrace of Rossio, where guests can savor the Portuguese Dinner Buffet during the entire month of June for authentic Portuguese dishes such as Salted Cod Salad, Portuguese Stewed Clams with Garlic and White wine, Portuguese Seafood Rice, Cod Fish Gratin, and Portuguese Chorizo Flambé.
Also inspired by Valkyrie Octopus, the pastry team has designed two Portuguese afternoon tea sets at the Pastry Bar. Miniature sweet items include Portuguese Custard Tarts and Port Wine Pear Tarts, while for savory lovers there’s Roasted Duck and Sweet Onion Tartlets plus a contemporary twist on the classic Portuguese dish Bacalhau Gratinado – a Bacalhau Tart with Coriander. Traditional favorites also include Angel Hair Pasta Pudding and Orange Rolls. Both Portuguese Afternoon Tea Sets are available until October 31.
As part of the Portugal Day celebrations, Portuguese band 80 & TAL will entertain audiences until July 14 at Lion’s Bar. With its energetic on-stage presence, critically acclaimed 80 & TAL’s vast repertoire includes material from Sting & The Police, The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, The Beach Boys and many others.
