A Korean national was preparing to leave Macau carrying HKD7 million in a large black backpack when Macau Customs stopped him at the airport. Officers asked him to open his bag and found multiple stacks of cash. According to a Sina News report, the man claimed that he won HKD13 million at a local casino and that he’d planned on depositing the 7 million he was caught with in his bank when he got home. He said he was unfamiliar with customs laws and wasn’t aware that he needed to declare the money before inspection. The customs confiscated a total of HKD7 million in cash.
