Hotel sector revenue plunges

Revenues of the hotel sector decreased by 6.6 percent year-on-year to MOP26.04 billion in 2015, according to information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
The revenue drop was mainly attributed to the 10.6 percent drop in room sales (MOP 12.21 billion), which accounted for 46.9 percent of the total.
Revenues from the F&B sector also fell by 2.4 percent while revenues from rental of space rose 1 percent.
According to DSEC, total expenditure across the sector increased by 1.6 percent year-on-
year to MOP23.44 billion.
Income of the hotel sector from online business (including online room reservation and ticketing) decreased by 9.9 percent year-on-
year to MOP703 million. Online business revenue of five-star hotels dropped by 19.1 percent, while that of four-star hotels surged by 39.9 percent.
A total of 107 hotels and guesthouses were operating in 2015, comprising 74 hotels and 33 guesthouses.
