Cape Verde intends to privatize two companies by mid-2015

TACV, the flagship airline carrier of Cape Verde and port management company Enapor “should be privatized by mid-2015,” said the country’s Minister of Infrastructure and the Maritime Economy, Sara Lopes.
At the end of a series of meetings entitled, “Cape Verde under Debate”, organized by the Cape Verdean community in Portugal, Lopes said of TACV that is had “not yet been possible to privatize the company, due to its economic and financial situation,” according to Cape Verdean weekly newspaper A Semana.
The Infrastructure and Maritime Economy Minister also said that the Cape Verdean authorities had received several expressions of interest “regarding TACV” and also “there are several companies from various countries interested in ports” in the country, namely Portugal, the Netherlands, Turkey and France.
Enapor is at a more advanced stage, according to the minister, and the sale should be completed by December, through a possible direct sale.”
“We already have all the tools in place and have started a process of negotiation with an international group that aims to fulfill what Cape Verde wants from its ports: Turn them into goods distribution hubs,” ​​the minister said.
Lopes also said that if it was not possible to reach an agreement by December, the government would launch an international tender, “in which case we will have the support of the African Development Bank and the World Bank and from some countries have already made this journey.” MDT/Macauhub
