Chief Executive Chui Sai On has pledged to hear and take into consideration the population’s views on Macau, while delivering a Chinese New Year message yesterday.
The Chief Executive acknowledged that, as spring draws closer, “it’s time to plan ahead” and think of the future. Looking at the New Year “with serenity,” he recalled that Macau faced “difficulties and continuous change.” Therefore, the government will be striving to “overcome its shortcomings.” “We remain firm in our purpose of serving Macau’s population; we will learn from the population’s wisdom, look to reach a consensus and step up our efforts to plan the development of Macau and meet the goal behind our motto of ‘Common wishes for the future and the sharing of prosperity,’” Chui Sai On wrote.
Macau’s leader stressed that, while celebrating the Spring Festival, we should show solidarity with those less fortunate. “We need to show solidarity with families and people who need further support, so that they can also take part in this festive joy,” he added.
The Chief Executive recalled that this is a time of “renewal” and “blossoming,” and that spring is the season of hope. He acknowledged that throughout the past year, Macau citizens had “worked devotedly,” and that the city’s economy had maintained a steady growth. He added that the citizens’ quality of life saw continuous improvement “and that our society retained its harmony and stability.” He concluded by saying, “we are all walking toward a brighter future.”
Chui Sai On thanked civil servants and employees of private companies who are on duty throughout the Lunar New Year: “To all public administration and private sector workers on duty over this holiday, serving the population, I sincerely thank you and express my wishes for a happy holiday.”  CP
