The General Administration of Sport of China has facilitated the signing of an agreement among the governments of Guangdong Province, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), and the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) to enhance sports cooperation and promote integrated development, the Government Information Bureau stated.
The signing of the agreement will boost exchanges and cooperation among mainland China, the HKSAR, and the MSAR across various sectors, including elite sports, mass sports, the sports industry, youth sports, international sports governance, sports science and technology, sports culture, and sports legal frameworks.
The agreement aims to promote resource sharing, joint use of facilities, co-hosting of events, collaborative talent development, shared industrial growth, co-creation of technological advances, and mutual improvement of standards.
The three-party agreement reportedly stems from the extensive experience gained through Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau’s joint hosting of the 15th National Games of the People’s Republic of China.
The statement also said that “the agreement represents a practical exploration of further leveraging the unique functions and diverse values of sport so that it can better serve the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA) and the ‘One country, two systems’ principle.”
Under the guidance of the General Administration of Sport of China, the three regions agreed to follow the provisions and support the development of sports initiatives and industry collaboration.
Regarding Macau, it was also stated that the region “will seize this opportunity to use sporting events as a connecting force; further deepen coordination and synergy on culture- and sport-related matters with Guangdong and Hong Kong; achieve closer regional cooperation; build a more dynamic industrial ecosystem; and promote deeper cultural affinity.”
