Sands China care ambassadors learn about the hearing impaired

Group-photoVolunteers from the Sands China Care Ambassador (SCCA) program participated in two sign language workshops with the Macau Deaf Association (MDA) – Friday at The Venetian Macao’s Adelson Advanced Education Centre and Saturday at MDA’s Service Centre for the Deaf.
The 60 Care Ambassadors participating in the two workshops learned some sign language, watched educational clips from the MDA, and were led by the MDA staff in activities aimed at giving them insight into the realities of the deaf experience.
Besides promoting social inclusion, the workshops also served to deepen the Care Ambassadors’ understanding of the community and community service.
“I had joined another MDA activity with the Care Ambassadors last year in March, and both of these experiences have left really big impressions on me,” said one of the SCCA volunteers who participated in the workshops. “Being able to experience what someone else’s life is like – even if just a little bit – really helps me understand what others might be going through. I think this helps us strive to be better people, and it helps us serve each other better.”
