Crime | 43 drug dealers arrested in joint regional operations

Many drug trafficking crimes have taken place recently, the authorities announced this week.

During a press conference, the Judiciary Police (PJ) said that Macau and Guangdong anti-drugs joint operations resulted in the arrest of 43 people in total, with six of them arrested in Macau.

For the past six months, Macau and Guangdong police authorities have been investigating a criminal group based in Zhuhai. The group reportedly sells drugs to customers in Zhuhai and Macau.

On October 21, the mainland police force informed the Macau police authority that one of the core members of the group, surnamed Su, had travelled to Macau. With the information provided by the Guangdong police, Macau authorities followed Su, catching him just as he was selling drugs to a mainland customer.

At the same time, the police arrested another mainland resident who was responsible for transferring money to the mainland on Su’s behalf.

On the same day, the Zhuhai police also arrested eight drug dealers in the city, aged between 21 and 30 years of age.

According to the PJ, the chance that more people connected to the drug trafficking incident will be arrested has not been excluded.

In another independent case, a Hong Kong resident was arrested for drug consumption. The man was arrested after being seen climbing the exterior of a 30-story tall building

On October 21, a woman, who lives in an apartment located in the vicinity of Areia Preta, reported to the police that she had seen a man sneaking into her building illegally.

The police then went to the building for inspection. While there, many of the buildings’ residents told the police that they had witnessed an unknown man climbing up the windows of the building.

The police later found the man on a platform located on the building’s second floor, while he was still affected by the drugs he had taken.

The man was also found to have been a frequent drug user. The police went to the man’s apartment, where they found some drugs as well as equipment associated with the consumption drugs.

Another phone scam added to the record

A local woman fell victim to a phone scam and lost RMB30,000, according to the PSP. According to the police, the victim received a call from an unknown man, in September, who claimed to be the victim’s previous co-worker. He told the victim that he had been arrested in the mainland, and needed RMB10,000 for bail. The victim then transferred RMB10,000 to a mainland bank account upon the criminal’s request. The following day, the criminal asked the victim to transfer a further RMB20,000 to the same account, which she did. Upon realizing that she was a victim of a phone scam, the woman reported the incident to the police.
