The Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) has announced the launch of a series of training sessions designed to equip local workers with new skills in electronic commerce (e-commerce) and artificial intelligence (AI).
The “Plan for Enhancing and Certification of Digital Skills” provided around 800 training slots this year. It aims to meet companies’ needs for upskilling and transformation by strengthening education in e-commerce and AI applications to foster development across industries.
DSAL noted that these courses align with the “1+4” strategy to promote economic diversification and address the growing demand for qualified professionals in industrial digitalization.
The bureau also noted the rapid rise in online consumption, with e-commerce becoming a key growth driver for small and medium-sized enterprises. As a result, DSAL has launched practical e-commerce courses, including online store creation, online marketing (video production, live-stream selling), e-store management, data analysis, and more, forming a comprehensive e-commerce training pipeline.
This year, DSAL will continue offering courses in introductory online marketing, live-stream e-commerce, short video production for product marketing, tourism market research and analysis, BiliBili (Site B) e-commerce operations, and business data applications (big data analysis).
It will also offer intermediate-level e-commerce certification for live broadcast sellers, video producers, and marketers, alongside hands-on training in promotional video production for retail and marketing professionals.
Recognizing the growing impact of AI, DSAL has introduced new training and certification programs, including AI-assisted image design, AI-enhanced work efficiency, Douyin video production, Xiaohongshu content creation, and certifications from Alibaba Cloud (ACA) and Huawei (HCIA-AI). These courses aim to improve workflows in administration, design, and marketing, and to train engineers in AI solution development using machine learning algorithms.
According to DSAL, over 40 courses were conducted last year, training over 820 participants, with more than 230 earning professional certification. These programs were offered in collaboration with the Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Center, the Macao University of Tourism, the Amateur Continuing Study Center, the Greater Bay Area Human Resources Association, and supported by digital enterprises and training organizations from the mainland.
