DSEDJ: Hengqin school to be consistent with local education system

The Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) has reiterated the local students’ school in the Macau New Neighbourhood (MNN) was initially designed to be consistent with Macau’s education system.

Director Kong Chi Meng said students who enroll or transfer can also connect with Macau schools.

Speaking on TDM’s radio show yesterday, Kong said parents have requested that some international courses be added, and school buses will also be provided. In terms of integrated education, Kong said there is no special funding in the mainland, but the school will accept Macau children with different educational needs.

Over the weekend, it was announced Hou Kong Middle School will oversee operations of the school in the MNN on Hengqin, which is now open for enrollments.

The school will cater to Macau ID holders before mainland students and will adopt the Macau curricula and qualifications.

Despite this, mainland Chinese textbooks, educational tools and curricula have been prevalent in Hou Kong schools in Macau.

The future school will be integrated into Macau’s free education system.

The campus is designed to accommodate 1,050 students, distributed across 18 primary classes and 12 kindergarten classes. Staff Reporter
