The 26th Macao Arts Festival is kicking off tonight with a grand opening ceremony held in the lobby of the Macau Cultural Center (CCM). Headlining the festival’s grand opening is “Lied Ballet.”. This year’s festival line-up features 30 shows and exhibitions, as well as 100 activities included in its outreach program. Organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), the festival brings a variety of shows to Macau, including the musical “Dream of Journey to the West,” combining traditional Chinese music and theater while incorporating elements from Chinese opera as well. Intangible arts performances such as Kun Opera, Cantonese Opera and Patuá Theatre are also part of the program.  Taking the CCM stage on May 9, the commissioned work Aerodynamics, choreographed by Taiwan’s “super dancer” Lin Wen-Chung, aims to give the audience unlimited room for imagination. Another show premiering in Asia, titled “Trust,” will be performed by German company Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz on May 29 and 30 at the Macau Cultural Center, and will bring the festival to a close.
