The France Macau Chamber of Commerce (FMCC) will host its annual Charity Gala Dinner Sept. 20 at the Grand Ballroom of MGM Macau.

This year’s event, themed “A Journey Through Time and Space,” commemorates 60 years of Sino-French relations while raising funds for Oxfam’s paper recycling initiatives in Macau.

At a press conference yesterday, FMCC president Rutger Verschuren expressed appreciation for the sponsors and announced the evening will feature a performance by the Sino-French jazz band, Alice and the Wanderers, who will travel from Shanghai for the occasion.

Additionally, Verschuren said “This year, we’re also very excited to continue with the second edition of the Macau ESG Awards 2024.”

With ESG Awards submissions closing last week, the FMCC’s jury will thoroughly review each entry, and winners will be announced during the event, recognizing organizations in three categories: Best Project, Best SME, and Best NGO, all for their outstanding commitment to environmental, social and governance principles.

Oxfam, the sole beneficiary of this year’s gala, has been active in Macau since 2012, focusing on poverty alleviation and promoting global citizenship education.

The organization’s paper recycling project aims to improve the livelihoods of cardboard collectors and boost recycling rates in a city where only 20% of paper waste is currently recycled.

“We are excited to partner with Oxfam and support their paper recycling project through this year’s gala,” Verschuren said.

“By raising awareness and funds, we hope to inspire greater community involvement in sustainability efforts and improve the welfare of elderly cardboard collectors in Macau.”

The FMCC Charity Gala Dinner 2024 promises an exquisite evening featuring French cuisine, live entertainment, and exciting lucky draw prizes.

Proceeds from the event will directly support Oxfam’s paper recycling project, “contributing to a more sustainable future” for Macau. Nadia Shaw
