Guangdong | Trade with Central, Eastern Europe rose 15.2%

Guangdong Province saw its trade with 17 Central and Eastern European Countries (CEEC) rise 15.2% year-on-year in the first half of this year, Customs data showed Wednesday.

Trade between Guangdong and the CEEC reached 61.1 billion yuan (about $8.9 billion) in the first six months. Of the trade, 55.2 billion yuan came from exports from Guangdong to the CEEC and 5.9 billion yuan came from imports, registering an increase of 15.4% and 14.1%, respectively.

Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Greece were Guangdong’s top four trade partners in the CEEC.

Mechanical and electrical products accounted for about 80 percent of the total goods Guangdong exported to the CEEC from January to June. Among them, mobile phones and computer equipment were most popular, with their export value rising 22.6% and 26.3% to 4.5 billion yuan and 2.3 billion yuan, respectively.

Electronic components, food and cosmetics were among the main products Guangdong imported from these countries during the same period.

Guangdong and many other regions in China have seen their trade with the CEEC rise under the China-CEEC cooperation mechanism. Greece was accepted this year as a full member of the mechanism, which was previously known as 16+1 cooperation since it included 16 Central and Eastern European countries and China.
