Macau’s Barra Square came alive on October 4 with the opening of the 12th International Lion Dance Championship 2025 – MGM Cup, drawing nearly 260 athletes from 21 teams representing 13 countries and regions.

The two-day event marks the grand finale of this year’s MGM Lion Dance Championship and features four competition categories, including the freestyle high-pole, women’s, youth, and junior divisions.

Recognized as one of the world’s top three Southern Lion Dance competitions and the only one to include a women’s division, this year’s edition has seen over 60% of teams coming from overseas. Youth participation also rose by 14% compared with last year.

The event forms part of a broader “Tourism + Sports + Culture” initiative, coinciding with the Lion Dance Festival at Navy Yard No. 2.

Together, they aim to promote cultural exchange, community participation, and tourism during the National Day Golden Week.
