Macau | Leong’s list announces political platform

New Union for Macau Development (NUDM), led by lawmaker Angela Leong, has announced its political platform for the 2017 Legislative Assembly (AL) election. According to a statement issued by the association, the NUDM list was also submitted to the Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau yesterday.

In the statement released yesterday, the association pledged to adhere to the national strategies of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Greater Bay Area development plan, both as part of the city’s economic diversification.

In regard to Macau workers, NUDM said it would seek to improve the quality of life for employees from the gaming industry, including the opportunity for upward career mobility. However, the association did not provide any details as to how this might be achieved.

It also stated that it would aim for the “betterment of public housing policies […] to ease the young peoples’ housing needs,” as well as the revamp of the public transportation system, “whereby easy access of public transport vehicles and a traffic jam free [environment] are attained.”

Moreover, the association expressed that it is keen to promote the social integration of various communities in the MSAR. The statement noted that the association will seek to encourage the integration of different ethnicities. “The respective cultures of these groups are cherished and their special needs [will be] cared for,” it read.

In the 2013 AL elections, NUDM secured a single seat with 8.94 percent of the popular vote.

The 2017 AL election will be held on September 17.
