McDonald’s destroys 3,700 kg of Husi food products

The Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) Food Safety Centre announced that under its supervision McDonald’s Macau has destroyed 3,700 kilograms of Husi food products. Importation records also show that there is no other local restaurant that has previously imported products from Husi Shanghai.
The head of the Food Safety Centre, Leung Veng Han, said that these products came from Husi in Guangzhou and Hebei, and included vegetables and fruit such as sweetcorn, lettuce, lemon, tomato and cucumber, as well as meat, such as crispy chicken and sliced beef. They were destroyed on Monday.
IACM president Alex Vong revealed that his staff has already inspected 114 restaurants and shops that could be affected by the food safety scandal.
“They include KFC, Starbucks, Pizza Hut, 7-11, etc. [IACM] has dispatched officials to the restaurants and storage locations to inspect in order to understand the current storage condition of those products from the same brand.
“[IACM officials] also took samples. We have already finished the testing of part of the samples. We can tell you that there is no abnormality.”
When the media asked about IACM’s inability to detect problems with foodstuffs that were imported into Macau, IACM executive committee member Ung Sau Hong stressed that it is equally important for authorities from exporting regions to supervise their products.
“I think, for imported foods, the supervision by the place of origin [on their products] is very important as well.
“Therefore, we will look at the hygiene documentation when the products were imported. We may also demand some additional examinations be conducted if required.” JPL
