With hopes of attracting an average of 100,000 tourists daily from mainland China, Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, Director of the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO), expressed optimism about the upcoming holiday period yesterday to local media, as it is expected to be a peak time for tourism. The MGTO director foresees a significant influx of visitors during Golden Week.
Provisional data revealed that Macau welcomed 3.66 million tourists in August, marking a robust summer season. From July to August, the region recorded nearly 6.7 million arrivals, averaging 108,000 visitors per day—93% of pre-pandemic levels in 2019. Notably, August saw an average of 118,000 daily tourists, surpassing figures from the same month in 2019.
Highlighting the festivities, the 32nd Macau International Fireworks Display Contest will coincide with the Golden Week, promising to enhance the appeal for visitors. The event, known for its spectacular pyrotechnic displays, will feature teams from around the world, further solidifying Macau’s status as a premier tourist destination.
Following recent weather-related postponements, the MGTO plans to announce the revised schedule for the fireworks displays today.
