MGTO ramps up European tourism promotion

The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) has expanded its presence at this year’s Feria Internacional de Turismo (FITUR), one of the world’s largest international tourism trade fairs, held in Madrid, Spain. This strategic initiative aims to boost visitor arrivals from long-haul markets, particularly Europe.

Under the leadership of MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, this is the first time since the pandemic that the office has had a dedicated booth at FITUR. The booth highlights the “Macao Tourism Exchange” and presents updated tourism products, emphasizing the destination’s appeal to European travelers. In addition to the fair, MGTO is launching targeted marketing campaigns across Europe, collaborating with key tourism partners and online platforms.

A key event at the fair was the Macau Tourism Exchange, where Senna Fernandes announced that the enhanced FITUR presence marks the beginning of intensified promotional efforts aimed at the European market in 2025.

The MGTO booth also features an “Experience Macao” section, which includes a virtual reality tour that offers attendees an immersive look at Macau’s diverse attractions. This interactive display aims to engage travel operators and media throughout the five-day event.

In collaboration with HBX Group, MGTO is launching a 2025 marketing campaign targeting six European countries: Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Germany, and the United Kingdom. The campaign will use online platforms like Hotelbeds and Bedsonline to educate European travel agents, airlines, and other industry stakeholders about Macau’s unique offerings.

Additionally, MGTO is rolling out destination marketing initiatives and special hotel deals through platforms such as Travelport and eDreams ODIGEO to drive sales and encourage longer stays in Macau.

To further strengthen its European presence, MGTO has scheduled two major European trade events in Macau: the ECTAA 2025 Macao Summit in June and the 50th APAVT Congress in December.
