Mobile charger causes fire on bus

A minor fire took place yesterday at around 3 p.m. on a New Era bus when it was on a roundabout on the Estrada Marginal da Ilha Verde. During the preliminary investigation, the Judiciary Police (PJ) found a burnt box the size of a cigarette box, as well as several thumb-size batteries under the seat at the end of the bus. Officials suspect they are components of a mobile charging device that was left behind by passengers.
Since the area is near the bus engine, PJ suspects that the device caught fire after becoming overheated. Information suggested that the driver immediately evacuated the passengers once he was noticed about the fire. He then put out the fire with a fire extinguisher, during which a minor explosion took place. Nobody was injured in the accident. New Era said it would hand the CCTV footage to the PJ for investigation.
