Mobile payments grow 8.2% in value in Q4 2024

The number and value of local mobile payment transactions grew quarterly in the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2024, according to statistics released by the Monetary Authority of Macao (AMCM).
According to the release, the value increased by 8.4%, while the number jumped by 13.5% to 100 million compared with Q3 of 2024.
The transaction value totaled MOP8.2 billion, with the average amount per transaction being MOP82.40.

At the end of 2024, the number of mobile payment terminals and QR code signs amounted to 108,905.
Concurrently, the credit limit granted by banks in Macau to credit cards was MOP49.9 billion, equivalent to an increase of 0.3% from the previous quarter.

Credit card receivables reached MOP2.8 billion, with the rollover amount totaling MOP786.9 million, which represents 27.9% of the total.
On the other hand, the delinquency ratio, which measures the amount overdue for more than three months in credit card receivables, went down from 2.8% at the end of September 2024 to 2.6%.

In Q4, credit card turnover totaled MOP6.2 billion, an increase of 0.4% from the previous quarter. Cash advance turnover was MOP157.5 million, representing 2.5% of the total credit card turnover.

The number of credit card transactions was 12.7 million, up 8.1% quarterly.
Credit card repayments, which include interest and fees, fell by 2.3% quarter-on-quarter to MOP6.2 billion. Meanwhile, the number of debit card transactions, excluding cash withdrawals, reached 1.2 million, and the debit card turnover totaled MOP552.5 million.
