Mozambique’s Gorongosa Park showcase

All the history and restoration of Gorongosa National Park (PNG), Mozambique’s largest and most important protected habitat, will be on display in Macau this month.
This is an initiative of the Mozambique Friends’ Association in Macau, who developed the exhibition in conjunction with the park’s directors. Almost 90 percent of the park’s fauna was destroyed during the country’s civil war in 1992, the vice president of the association, Carlos Barreto, told Lusa.
The exhibition comprises sets of photographs and films provided by PNG and will be open to the public from November 14 to 29 at the Macau Tower. The exhibition launch will take place on November 13, unveiling what the Mozambique Friends’ Association presents as “perhaps the greatest story of wildlife restoration in Africa.”
The films on display are divided into two sections: one composed of short clips 1 to 2 minutes long; the second with short stories up to 25 minutes long.
Both the photography and films aim to tell a little about the story of the Park and to inform viewers about its ongoing restoration projects.
“The aim is to inform people about the history of the park, established in 1924 in central Mozambique, its wildlife, preservation, the discovery of new species, and the integration of the communities in the restoration project,” the organizer stated. RM
