Orbis Macau, a non-profit organization that is part of an international group dedicated to saving eyesight, kicked off a new campaign on Saturday, called “Darkness To Go 2016.”
The campaign is an initiative led by Orbis in partnership with local designers, multimedia producers, media organizations and local retailers in Macau, with the aim of supporting the work of the non-profit organization.
Running from June 25 to July 27, individuals can participate by buying selected “Darkness To Go” items at participating retailers; part or all of the item’s sales revenue will go towards supporting Orbis’ sight-saving work.
“The word ‘darkness’ often relates to unpleasant sensations such as fear, helplessness and despair. Darkness also reminds us about blindness,” said Vivian Lo, Director of Development of Orbis Macau.
“There are 39 million blind people still living in the dark and 19 million children could not even see the faces of their parents,” she added.
In addition to hair salons, boutiques and restaurants, the 50 or so partners included toy stores, medical centers and florists, according to a statement from Orbis Macau.
“Such a wide variety means it is incredibly easy to help save sight as you go about your daily life,” the statement continued.
Consumers may contribute further by using an OCBC Wing Hand Orbis credit card. For each purchase made with the card during the month-long period, the bank will double its usual 0.3 percent donation of the price of the purchase to 0.6 percent.
