The current Covid-19 pandemic situation in Macau is unlikely to affect the start of the new school year for the large majority of institutions. The only exception seems to be the University of Macau (UM), which has recently announced through their online communication channels that classes starting from August 18 will be run online until August 31.
As for the Macau University of Science and Technology, classes are scheduled to start in person from September 1. For the time being, no changes or adjustments have been announced.
The same applies to the City University of Macau, where classes are due to kick off from August 30.
Starting a week later is the University of Saint Joseph, which also does not expect any changes to the start of their academic year.
According to the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ), there are currently no plans to adjust the start of the new school year for the primary and secondary schools. Although there are differences in timing among the schools for the start the academic year, the DSEDJ claims that most are aiming to start normally in the first week of September.
According to the decision by the Chief Executive, nurseries will continue to remain closed, along with other school and education facilities, until August 18, the date which the “immediate prevention status” is expected to be revoked.
