Co-chairperson of MGM China Holdings, Pansy Ho, believes that mainland China’s visa restrictions to Hong Kong have had an impact on the tourism flow to Macau too, TDM News reported. In an interview on the sidelines of the Global Tourism Economy Forum, Pansy Ho said that Macau was affected by visa restrictions applied by the central government to Hong Kong, particularly since a high number of tourists reach Macau via Hong Kong. “It has had an impact, I have to admit. Macau already started showing signs that it was affected during the past two weeks or so.”
Early this month, mainland China suspended visas for tour groups heading to Hong Kong, as a huge pro-democracy protest started to take shape in the HKSAR.
Pansy Ho, who is also vice-chairman of the Global Tourism Economy Forum, added that in any case Macau needs to work with other regions in the long run. “Macau needs to work with practically all our neighboring regions. So I think we should continue to nurture that relationship and we should continue on [doing] what is best, economically,” she said.
