The secretary-general at Caritas Macau, Paul Pun, is opposed to the government’s idea of building high-end nursing homes in Hengqin for the local elderly population, saying that it would not meet the imminent needs of Macau seniors.
The move to the neighboring island, according to Mr Pun, would make those receiving the service lonely and isolated, as the venues are out of Macau. He also pointed out that a sense of family was what they actually needed. Furthermore, the head of the care organization believed that the city still had some land available for the establishment of small-scale elderly care service providers.
