MGM has always been a pioneer of cultural tou- rism. Their latest collaboration with Chinese mu- sic maestro Tan Dun, one of the top 10 most important musicians on the global music scene, promises to be an unprecedented multisensory experience for music enthusiasts. The monumental symphonic masterpiece, Buddha Passion, is a fusion of Eastern and Western music with Dunhuang epics. Featuring a spectacular cast led by Tan Dun, including internationally renowned Lanzhou Symphony Orchestra, Lanzhou Concert Hall Choir, acclaimed vocalists and soloists, the show will be grandly staged at the MGM Theater on January 1 and 2, 2024.
With numerous site visits and extensive research, Tan Dun has dedicated six years to composing the Buddha Passion and recreating the ancient Dunhuang musical instruments and dances for the show, including the Dunhuang xiqin and Fantan Pipa.
Adding to the grandeur of the performance is a giant LED screen showcasing the breathtaking Dunhuang murals and the entire reclining Buddha, which innovatively creates an immersive epochal journey through thousand years of legacy that conveys the compassionate and kind spirit of Dunhuang culture to the audience through digitalization.
