Several events mark region’s 17th anniversary today

The government organized a series of events to mark the 17th anniversary of the establishment of the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR).

Highlights of the celebrations today, the day of the anniversary, include a flag raising ceremony at Golden Lotus Square at 8 a.m. The ceremony will be shown live by the TDM television service. There will also be the usual reception hosted by the government at the Macau Tower Convention and Entertainment Centre, at 9.30 a.m.

Several government departments have events to commemorate the anniversary of the MSAR. The activities include a concert promoted by the Sports Bureau, at Macau Stadium, Taipa, at 2 p.m.

Macau Post is offering to the public a commemorative postmarking service. It will be located at a temporary counter at Macau Post’s Senado Square headquarters in the city center. The franking service is available from 9 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. today.

In addition, at 9 p.m., the Macao Government Tourism Office will stage a fireworks display on the waterfront near the Macau Tower.

Another event coinciding with the 17th anniversary of the establishment of the MSAR is a special flower show called “Enchanting Blossoms in Woodland”, organized by the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau. The exhibition features more than 50,000 winter and festive blooms displayed at the Taipa Houses-Museum in Taipa. It will run until January 8, 2017.

CE to report to Beijing

Chief Executive Chui Sai On will be on his annual duty visit to Beijing from tomorrow until December 24. During his duty visit, the Chief Executive will report to the state leaders regarding the local government’s work and the policy blueprint for next year. Officials accompanying Chui on the duty visit will include: the chief-of-office of the Chief Executive’s Office, O Lam; the director of the Government Information Bureau, Chan Chi Ping and the director of the Protocol, Public Relations and External Affairs Office, Fung Sio Weng. While Chui is in Beijing, the Secretary for Transport and Public Works Raimundo do Rosário will be the acting Chief Executive.
