Shenzhen Immigration sets record high of over 1 million visitors

China’s largest port city Shenzhen registered over 130 million entry-exit persons in the first half of the year, up 7.2% year on year, the southern Chinese city’s immigration authorities said.

Official statistics show that the average daily inspections in the period stood at 726,000, with the maximum daily figure exceeding 1 million, hitting a record high.

A total of 7.23 million ships, planes and trains entered or exited the city border from January to June.

The Shenzhen airport also saw nearly 3 million inbound and outbound passengers on more than 23,000 planes during the period, up 26.7% and 16.1% year on year, respectively.

The hike is partially attributed to the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area and a more relaxed visa-free access to Guangdong, reported state media Xinhua.

The immigration authorities have streamlined clearance processes to meet the demands of increasing passengers and adopted big data, quantum communication and AI technologies to promote self-service and efficiency. DB/Xinhua
