Statistics | First tourist price index decline since 2002

The Tourist Price Index (TPI) has declined by 2.72 percent for the third quarter of 2015, signaling the first decline since the third quarter of 2002. The information was released in a report from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), which suggested that lower charges for hotel accommodation and a reduction in the price of clothing had caused the decline.
A notable change was observed in the price index of accommodation (-10.88 percent), and clothing & footwear (-6.96 percent). Meanwhile, the price indexes for the categories of food, alcoholic beverages & tobacco, transport & communications, and entertainment & cultural activities increased by 5.87 percent, 3.94 percent and 3.14 percent respectively.
Although the TPI for the third quarter of 2015 fell by 2.34 percent quarter-to-quarter, the average TPI for the last four quarters remains positive – up by 0.55 percent from the previous period. For the first three quarters of 2015, the TPI decreased by 0.1 percent year-on-year, compared with the first three quarters of 2014.
The TPI is used to indicate the changes in price of goods and services purchased by visitors. Sections of TPI goods and services are selected and measured according to the consumption patterns of tourists.
