The Secretary for Security, Wong Sio Chak, said authorities found two taxi violations and four cases of illegal transportation during the passage of Typhoon Wipha.
The revelation was made during the Security Chief’s remarks on the work of the Civil Protection authorities after the termination of the emergency prevention state.
According to data collected by the Public Security Police Force, the crackdown on illegal activities committed by taxi drivers during this period found two violations of the taxi law due to overcharging. Four vehicles were found to be providing illegal transportation during the typhoon, and their drivers were prosecuted.
In his summary, Wong said that members of the civil protection structure fulfilled their responsibilities and performed their duties well.
Wong also emphasized that Macau is still in the typhoon season, warning all civil protection personnel to remain alert and ready to continue responding to civil protection missions and severe weather threats.
During the six and a half hours the mechanism was active (Signal 8 or above), the Civil Protection Center hotline received 123 inquiries and requests for help.
According to reports from residents in areas more prone to flooding, specifically the Inner Harbor, there were no reports of flooding this time.
This aligns with a statement from Secretary for Transport and Public Works Raymond Tam, who said this would be the first time the new pumping stations and box culverts, installed as flood prevention measures, would be thoroughly tested.
